Classics, Trends and Bargains (on both!) Oh My!

So….  Today I want to share my keys to becoming a successful bargain shopper with you!

For better or worse, I always catch myself digging for gold at TJ Maxx (my "neighborhood Saks"), Target, Ebay and the many wonderful consignment shops that seem to pop up all over town.  The key to racking up the stylish deals is an agenda!  Mine: classics & trends!

The first in my first two-part series:  The Top 10 Classics every Woman should own.

1) Crisp White Shirt

The Crisp White Shirt is a staple and there are so many different and fun ways it can be worn.  During the work day, I'll pair mine with a bright skirt to give a pop of color and in the evening, I may pair it with a black mini and heels or belt it over a pair of skinny jeans and boots.  The options are endless but one things for sure, it's worth the investment and will remain in your closet forever!  

My recent white shirt investment can be seen above.  I went with the Boyfriend Shirt from Ann Mashburn, a favorite Atlanta designer and boutique of my sister.  It is skinny in shape but keeps an oversize collar and cuffs with an extra long tail which is perfect for tucking in or wearing out.

2) Black Pencil Skirt

I could wear a black pencil skirt every day! It goes with everything and has the ability to look super polished and put together while sexy and retro at the same time.  It's perfect with your crisp white blouse like Jessica or with a fun accessory like Leighton for the work day.  Then dress it up like Miranda with a fitted top and stappy heels at night.  You'll be sure to get some deserved attention in this classic staple.

3) Ballet Flats

You gotta love a comfortable and stylish shoe and the ballet flat is just that!  These come in so many styles and colors and can be worn with anything from your skinny jeans and dresses to your pencil skirts and black pants.  You will always be comfy and chic = perfect combo!

Just a few of my favorite styles to be on the lookout for.  There are many Tory Burch look-a-likes out there now since they have become such a popular style and definitely a staple within my own wardrobe. I keep mine in the car and have them at hand if my feet ever begin to hurt at the end of the day. My flats are always on my feet while traveling.  So comfortable and easy to slip on and off.  

4) Little Black Dress

The famous LBD!  This should always be your go-to dress when you don't know what to wear or just aren't feeling very cute.  Something about the perfect little black dress will put the swing back in your step and give you the confidence to make it a successful day or super fun night!  I recommend finding the style that flatters your figure best and can be taken from day to night.  Do you want to show off your arms, legs, waist, or chest?  Can you add a fitted blazer and pumps for day and then add funky jewelry, a cool belt, or a fun clutch for night?  The most important feature is that you feel like a million bucks in it...  That's what makes this investment priceless!

My go-to LBD is always BCBG.  They are so versatile, the fits and styles are endless and they are always work and night out appropriate.

5) Nude Pumps

The nude pump should be your favorite shoe.  They go with everything and always make your legs look a mile long!  This style is popping up everywhere and is an easy and budget friendly add to your shoe collection if you haven't already.  My shoes are a nude wonderland..I just can't get enough of the bare leg look!

6) Dark Denim Jeans

The perfect pair of dark denim jeans are a classic.  You must find the style that flatters your body.  Flare, Bootcut, Skinny, or Trouser.  Which is the most friendly to your waist, thighs, and most importantly the booty! Once you find "the one" you will live in them.  Paired with everything from a plain white shirt and flops to a flowy blouse and boots, you will always be classic and chic in this staple.

My All-Time Favorite dark denim jeans are J-Brand Lovestory in Ink.  Perfect fit, color, flare and stretch all in one.

7) Leather Handbag

A classic leather bag is your go-to everyday grab bag that's just the right style and shape to hold all your essentials.  Do you prefer top handles, over the shoulder, or cross-body?  Do you want small, medium, or large?  Do you carry your life with you like me or just your essentials?  Will you go classic black or cognac or go for a little more color like red?  Think all this through thoroughly because this is probably the biggest fashion investment you will ever make.  When used day in and day out, you always make this purchase well worth the hefty price.  I'm not saying you have to go all out designer but do buy high quality leather so you will get the durability to make it last.  Again, plenty of options available at discount stores and online that are from Italy and of the highest quality leather.  Always look for classic styles and shapes to ensure you can use it forever.

8) Wrap Dress

Just like the "LBD"the wrap dress is an essential to your wardrobe.  It will take you through all seasons and from day to night.  You just can't go wrong.  Ultra flattering with the v-neck and cinched waist, find one in a print or solid and you will get you wear out of it…like forever!

DVF Wrap Dress Obsessed!  Diane Von Furstenburg's wrap dress has been a phenomenon since the 70's.  Because of it's jersey material, this perfect dress just molds to your body.  I finally found my hot pink print frock at a local consignment shop and can't wear it enough!  I encourage you to start your search on ebay where new and old ones alike are being sold in thousands of prints.

This crazy lady is a little too DVF obsessed.  One classic style will do, thanks!

9) The Suit

I love me a good suit! You should definitely wear it together but also think about wearing the pieces as separates. The jacket can be worn over dresses and with your black pencil skirt and the pants can be paired with your white crisp shirt or other fun tops.  The suit is the most versatile and when worn well, you can own the room.  Nothing is more powerful than a woman in a kick-ass suit!  Take inspiration from Halle, Heidi, and Jen as they prove a pantsuit isn't just for the men anymore.  

 Again I rely on BCBG for my suits and have collected all three classic colors Beige, Black and Grey.  The styles are timeless and the shades and fabrics are all year round.  You will have luck budget shopping for these classic styles as people are usually cleaning out their closets of their old suits thinking they are "out of style" and only for the men to wear to the office. Their loss is your gain!

10) The Cardigan

You gotta give it up for my girl Cam, the girl knows how to rock a Cardi! This item is a no brainer.  It can be worn over a white crisp shirt with a pencil skirt, over a wrap dress, over a tank with dark denim jeans, and more!  The options are endless with a great cardigan so I suggest you look for a classic shape and color that will blend well with everything.  A classic item to keep you warm and chic…we love that combo!
